Ogidi: Family Of Murdered Musician Says They Are Not Updated On Court Case
The family of the late 28-year-old Delta State musician and delivery worker, Oghenemine Ogidi, popularly known as OG Millan, has expressed frustration over what they described as poor communication and lack of official updates regarding court proceedings in the case of his killing by police officers.
The family said they were not properly informed about Monday’s court sitting in Asaba, where five police officers accused in connection with Ogidi’s death were arraigned before High Court 5.
Ogidi was allegedly killed on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State, in an incident that triggered public outrage after a viral video of the incident circulated online.
The defendants include ASP Usman Nuhu (42), ASP Onoloko Dauroupamo (47), ASP Okoh Kelechi (46), Inspector Goodluck Kingsley (42), and Inspector Omonigho Ahweyevu (41). The case, filed under Suit No. THC/ASB/CR/M/66C/2026, came before Justice Marshal Onome Umukoro.
During the proceedings, the court ordered that the five officers be remanded at the Ogwashi-Uku Correctional Centre pending further legal steps. The matter was adjourned till June 15, 2026, for arraignment proper, following a request for legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, the hearing was held under restricted conditions, as journalists were reportedly denied access into the courtroom, limiting public observation of the proceedings.
Speaking after the session, family members said they were left uninformed and only became aware of developments through unofficial sources, including activists and social media updates.
A cousin of the deceased, Emuobor Alex, said the family had to travel from Warri to Asaba after receiving unconfirmed information that the case would be heard in court.
“We were advised to contact the Commissioner of Police, but later got information from activists that the case would be heard today. We rushed down to Asaba immediately,” he said.
He, however, lamented that by the time the family arrived, court proceedings had already ended, leaving them without direct access to what transpired.
“We arrived, but everything was already over. We were not carried along at all,” he added.
Similarly, the elder brother of the deceased, Victory Ogidi, said the family had been excluded from official communication channels and were instead relying on social media to follow the case involving their loved one.
“We lost our brother, and we should not be relying on social media to know what is happening in a case that concerns us directly,” he said.
He appealed to the Delta State Ministry of Justice, the Attorney-General of the state, and relevant security agencies to ensure that the family is properly briefed and carried along in all stages of the proceedings.
“We are not asking for special treatment. We just want to know what is happening in our brother’s case,” he said.
Also speaking, human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu, said the absence of proper communication with the victim’s family raises concerns about transparency in the process.
He noted that the family had not been shown key documents such as the autopsy report and had not been formally briefed on investigative progress.
Gwamnishu added that while the arraignment of the officers marked a step forward in the case, greater openness was needed to build public confidence in the justice process.
He further disclosed that future hearings may be conducted virtually, with the accused persons appearing from the correctional facility while proceedings are followed remotely in court.
The case continues to draw public attention amid calls for accountability and justice for Ogidi, whose death sparked widespread condemnation across Delta State and beyond.
