Omar Marmoush Ruled Out of Egypt’s Last WCQ Games

An injury has ruled out Manchester City winger Omar Marmoush from Egypt’s squad for their closing two 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Djibouti and Guinea-Bissau.

Egypt will have to do without Manchester City winger Omar Marmoush as they prepare for their decisive World Cup qualifiers.

The 26-year-old has been sidelined since suffering a knee injury against Burkina Faso on 9 September, ruling him out of the Pharaohs’ final two fixtures in the 2026 African qualifiers.

Head coach Hossam Hassan has named a 24-man squad, bringing in Pyramids FC winger Mostafa Fathy as the only replacement.

Football director Ibrahim Hassan confirmed that several other key players have also been left out through injury, including Emam Ashour (Ahly), Mohamed Abdelmonem (Nice), Nabil Emad “Donga”, Mohamed Shehata (Zamalek), Salah Mohsen (Masry), and Mahmoud Zalaka (Pyramids FC).

Egypt currently lead Group A with 20 points, five clear of second-placed Burkina Faso. They face Djibouti in Morocco on 8 October before returning to Cairo to host Guinea-Bissau on 12 October.

The Pharaohs need just a single point from their last two games to officially seal their place at the 2026 World Cup finals—their fourth appearance in history.
