Over 200,000 Bersatu members joining Hamzah’s ‘Reset’ team, claims ex-Melaka CM
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Melaka Bersatu chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Thamby Chik has claimed that more than 200,000 party members have either left or are expected to leave the party to join the “Reset” team led by Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
The former Melaka chief minister also rejected claims that Hamzah, the former Bersatu deputy president and opposition leader, was responsible for splitting the party.
“When a political party begins to operate like a private limited company, selectively enforcing disciplinary action against members, allowing defeated leaders to be reinstated, tolerating leaders with questionable moral records, treating corruption lightly, abandoning the people’s struggle, excessively glorifying leaders and branding criticism of the party as betrayal of its leadership, then naturally members will grow resentful of such practices and culture.
“I say this because, after nearly 50 years in politics, I personally feel that Bersatu will not progress far with the negative and destructive culture that currently underpins the party.
“So it is not Hamzah who is instigating efforts to split Bersatu. What is happening within the party itself and the way it is being run is what is driving the mass exodus from Bersatu,” he said.
