Pas confirms Bersatu ties discussed at PN emergency meeting, no decision reached

KOTA BARU: Pas has confirmed that its ties with Bersatu were among the matters discussed at an emergency Perikatan Nasional (PN) meeting today, but no decision was reached.

PN deputy chairman and Pas deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the meeting was convened to clarify a recent statement by Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and to review actions by Bersatu that were seen as affecting Pas and the coalition.

“There was no resolution because the president’s statement had called for several actions by Bersatu, which were seen as affecting Pas and PN, to be studied further. The relationship with Bersatu was also discussed,” he said briefly when contacted.

The Kubang Kerian Member of Parliament said the meeting also received state-level reports and updates on current political developments, including preparations for the upcoming state elections in Melaka, Johor and Negri Sembilan.

It was reported today that Pas held an emergency meeting today to discuss issues concerning PN including the party’s future with its component partner, Bersatu.

It is learnt that the emergency meeting, chaired by Hadi in Kuala Terengganu, involved top party leaders including members of the Pas Political Bureau and Central Committee.

Sources said among those present were Tuan Ibrahim, secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan and vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad.

Tensions between Pas and Bersatu have resurfaced following remarks by Hadi that Pas would re-evaluate its cooperation with Bersatu, citing several actions seen as straining relations within PN.
