PH cautious over ties with Pas and Bersatu, says Loke
SEREMBAN: Pakatan Harapan (PH) is cautious in forging cooperation with any party, particularly Bersatu and Pas, says DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
He said PH had had a bad experience working with both parties, including past political arrangements that ended in betrayal despite initial cooperation, such as supporting a Bersatu candidate for prime minister.
“To date, I have not heard Bersatu expressing any intention to work with PH, nor have there been any discussions. So I do not want to speculate,” he said.
“However, we must be careful if any party wants to cooperate in the run-up to elections. We cannot simply accept such cooperation without scrutiny. There is a possibility that some may be taking advantage rather than acting out of sincerity,” he told reporters after a tea reception with the Transport Minister and a presentation of incentives for SPM top students for the Seremban parliamentary constituency today.
He was commenting on speculation that Bersatu may be seeking cooperation with PH amid reported tensions with Pas, despite both being core components of Perikatan Nasional (PN).
Loke, who is also Seremban member of parliament and Negri Sembilan DAP chairman, said PH must build its own strength ahead of elections, including in Negri Sembilan, rather than relying on other parties.
“Pas and Bersatu have often attacked DAP and blamed us. How then can we work with them?” he said.
“For me personally, I cannot and will not trust such cooperation again,” he added.
