Regrettable if Armed Forces used for personal gain or online attention – TMJ

KUALA LUMPUR: The Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim reaffirmed his support for the Armed Forces and said it was unfortunate that some seek personal gain or attention through the institution.

“It is deeply regrettable when certain individuals attempt to utilise the military institution for personal interests or merely to generate social media attention and public recognition,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He added that before issuing statements on such matters, one must first understand the Federal Constitution, including the distinction between Federated and Non-Federated States.

“A superficial understanding of military service and constitutional matters only reflects a failure to truly comprehend the sacrifices, discipline, responsibilities and realities endured by members of the Armed Forces,” he said.

He added that it was equally unfortunate that concerns are selectively raised over military exercises, while many other pressing issues involving the welfare and well-being of the people appear to receive far less attention and urgency.

Tunku Ismail said Johor’s doors will always remain open to the Armed Forces.

“With regard to military training and exercises, the Armed Forces have the necessary space, authority and cooperation to conduct any form of exercise within the state of Johor. Such exercises are essential in strengthening operational readiness, enhancing capabilities and refining the skills required to safeguard national security and sovereignty, ” he said.

He added that the Johor Royal Institution and the Johor State Government will continue to extend their full support towards these efforts.

His Royal Highness said the sacrifices, dedication and service rendered by members of the Armed Forces in defending the nation must always be respected and appreciated.

“Military personnel should never be subjected to unnecessary obstacles in carrying out training and operational exercises that are vital to national defence and preparedness,” he added, saying those who wear the uniform deserve the highest level of respect and recognition.

He said his support also extended to retired and retiring military personnel, with Johor’s doors remaining open in recognition of their service and contributions.
