#SHOWBIZ: Zayn Malik forced to dodge flying bottles during dramatic London Q&A
LONDON: Singer Zayn Malik narrowly avoided injury on Thursday after two water bottles were hurled at him during a Q&A session in London.
The former One Direction star was leaving the stage at Banquet Records in Kingston when the projectiles were thrown from the venue’s balcony.
The first bottle whizzed past Malik’s face, missing his head only because the quick-thinking musician managed to duck.
A second bottle flew dangerously close to him moments later, prompting security personnel and venue staff to swiftly usher the singer outside to safety.
Representatives for Malik did not immediately respond to requests for comment regarding the incident.
The alarming encounter follows a turbulent few weeks for the artiste, who recently announced the cancellation of his US tour dates alongside scheduled shows in Dublin and Birmingham.
The decision came in the wake of several hospitalisations in April.
The tour was set to be Malik’s first time headlining arenas and stadiums as a solo performer following the release of his latest album, Konnakol.
Addressing his followers on Instagram Stories after the health scares, Malik shared a message of gratitude. “To my fans: Thank you so much for all the support and love you’ve shown me on the album release and more importantly your love, prayers, and well wishes for my health. I’ve felt it, and it’s meant the world. I’ve been at home recovering and I’m doing well and will be better and stronger than before,” he wrote.
However, the health setbacks have forced a restructuring of his upcoming live appearances.
“I’ve had to take another look at my schedule for the months ahead and have to reduce the number of shows on the KONNAKOL tour,” Malik explained, adding, “I want to make sure I still get out and see as many of you as I possibly can. I’m really looking forward to playing these shows for you, and I hope to see the rest of you around the world very soon.”
