Soldier charged with kicking son’s stomach, slapping his face
KOTA BARU: A soldier was charged at the Sessions Court here today with injuring his 10-year-old son in Kampung Kijang near here on May 11 last year.
The 42-year-old man pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.
According to the charge, the man was accused of abusing the boy by kicking the child’s stomach and slapping his face, which may have caused physical injury and emotional distress.
He was charged with committing the offence at a house in Kampung Kijang about 7.30pm on May 11, 2024.
The charge was framed under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which provides for a maximum penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Kamilah Che Ibrahim prosecuted, while the accused was represented by lawyer Samsul Bahrin.
Earlier, Nur Kamilah did not offer bail for the accused, but this was objected to by Samsul, who requested a lower bail amount for his client.
The court then set bail at RM10,000 with one surety and fixed June 24 for mention of the case.
