Teen arrested over knife attack on security guard in Cheras

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a 15-year-old boy for allegedly injuring a 49-year-old security supervisor with a knife in front of a convenience store at Razak City Residensi in Cheras.

Cheras police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rosdi Daud said the teenager was detained on Friday following the incident.

He said preliminary investigations found that the victim had reprimanded the suspect, who was allegedly intoxicated, for littering alcohol cans in the area.

“The suspect, dissatisfied with the reprimand, then acted aggressively and swung a knife, causing a slash wound to the victim’s left abdomen,” he said in a statement.

Rosdi said police from the Salak South station arrested the suspect at the scene at about 10.45am the same day and seized a knife believed to have been used in the attack.

He said the suspect, who is not in school and has no prior criminal record, tested negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years, or a fine, or whipping, or any two of the punishments upon conviction.

He said the suspect was remanded for one day and has since been released on police bail, with the investigation paper to be referred to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions.
