Two siblings who drowned in Paka buried in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: Two siblings who drowned in Sungai Beril near Taman Beril in Paka, Terengganu, were buried at the Kampung Buloh Poh Muslim burial grounds in Melor here today.
Muhammad Aidil Amsyar Mohd Zul-Zunaidi, 14, was buried at 8.20pm, while his elder brother, Muhammad Amir Ashraf, 15, was laid to rest at 11am, with family members, relatives and villagers gathering to pay their last respects.
Their uncle, Mohamad Zul Hazim Mohd Baldin, 30, said the brothers had grown up closely, like twins, despite being a year apart in age, and were the eldest grandchildren who shared a strong bond with their grandmother, Nor Hashimah Hashim, 64.
He said the family was shocked by the tragedy, as the boys had never visited the river before, adding that preparations had also been underway for a family gathering in conjunction with Aidiladha at the end of the month.
In the incident at 11am yesterday, the siblings drowned after being swept away by strong currents while bathing with two friends at the river.
Muhammad Amir Ashraf’s body was found on the riverbed about 7m from the incident site at 3.47pm yesterday, while Muhammad Aidil Amsyar was discovered floating near the Paka Market jetty at 9.55am today.
