Two US and British soldiers killed in training accident in northern Iraq

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The British minister of defense and the US Army announced on Monday that two soldiers, one American and one British, were killed in a training accident in northern Iraq.

The British Minister of Defense, John Healey, told the House of Commons that a British service man was killed on Monday in a training accident in northern Iraq.

Healey said that the soldier’s family had been notified of his death but did not provide any other information.

In a separate statement, the US military announced that an American service member died during a military exercise at Erbil Air Base.

The base, which hosts US forces, is located in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, near Erbil International Airport.

“The training was performed with our British Army allies, who also lost a soldier,” the US Army Central, a ground military force affiliated with Central Command (CENTCOM), said on social media.

In the same statement, the US military body said that the incident, which took place on Sunday, May 31, is under investigation.
