[UPDATED] Loke: RTD restores online transfer service after fraud-linked suspension
KUALA LUMPUR: The Road Transport Department (RTD) has agreed to immediately restore its online vehicle ownership transfer service after Transport Minister Anthony Loke intervened following concerns over disruption to public transactions.
In a statement today, Loke said he had discussed the matter with RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli after media reports highlighted the temporary suspension of the online service.
“RTD agreed to restore the online service for the matter immediately, and any suspension of the system for upgrading works will only be carried out during the long weekend later this week,” he said.
Loke said RTD had informed the Transport Ministry that abuse and fraud involving the ownership transfer system had exposed the department to liability, necessitating urgent improvements to the online platform.
However, he said he had advised RTD to ensure the upgrading works would not disrupt ordinary users or lead to major congestion at RTD offices nationwide.
Last night, RTD announced the suspension of its online vehicle ownership transfer service effective immediately across all digital platforms, including its public portal, kiosks and service providers such as MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd.
Aedy Fadly had said the move followed complaints, including those raised on social media, involving ownership transfers allegedly carried out without the knowledge of registered vehicle owners.
He said all ownership transfer transactions involving individuals and private company vehicles would have to be conducted physically at JPJ counters during the suspension period.
