Wee reminds Liew of DAP’s swipes at foes-turned-friends

MCA president Wee Ka Siong (left) responded to DAP’s Liew Chin Tong who asked if MCA would support a PAS-led PN in forming the government if GE16 ends without any single party obtaining a simple majority.

PETALING JAYA: MCA president Wee Ka Siong has fired back at DAP strategic director Liew Chin Tong for asking if MCA will back Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the event that the next general election (GE16) results in a hung Parliament.

In a stern retort on Facebook, Wee reminded Liew of DAP’s own swipes at its former rivals and current federal government allies, Umno and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

He questioned DAP’s principles in this regard, noting the hypocrisy of Liew challenging MCA about its stand on PN.

“You mean like how DAP now backs Umno and GPS, after decades of calling them corrupt, incompetent and oppressive?

“DAP even publicly apologised to GPS, which the former had claimed was robbing the state’s riches while keeping people dirt poor.

“Spare us the cheap propaganda and fear-mongering among non-Muslim voters,” the Ayer Hitam MP added.

Liew had challenged Wee to reveal whether MCA would support a PAS-led PN in forming the government if GE16 ends without any single party obtaining a simple majority.

The Iskandar Puteri MP said this would allow voters to know “what MCA stands for”.

The 2022 general election ended with Pakatan Harapan winning 82 seats, followed by PN (74), Barisan Nasional (30), GPS (23), and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (six). A simple majority of 112 seats is needed to form the government.

After the conclusion of the polls, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook and his predecessor Lim Guan Eng apologised to GPS chairman Abang Johari Openg for past statements made by DAP leaders, acknowledging that they had offended Sarawakians and the state government.

PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim was later announced as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister, forming the government with the support of BN, GPS, and GRS, despite PH’s past enmity with all three coalitions.
