Why good grades no longer protect young people entering the job market

Like most parents, I assumed that if my children worked hard, achieved strong academic results, and followed a recognised pathway through education, the world of work would open up in due course, because that was how it worked for our generation, and for the one before us. Study, qualify, apply, progress. Simple, linear, predictable.
