Women Urged to Remain Whole After Marriage

Women have been encouraged to maintain their identity, purpose, and emotional balance while navigating the demands of marriage and family life.

The charge was given at the maiden edition of the Wise Wives Summit 2026 in Wuse, Abuja.

The summit, which had as its theme, “How to Be Whole After Marriage”, brought together women from different walks of life to discuss self-worth, emotional intelligence, marriage, and personal growth.

Speaking at the event, the convener, Pastor Lilian Ochemba, said one of the greatest transitions in marriage occurs when spouses begin to evolve and life circumstances change.

According to her, many women spend so much time caring for others that they often neglect their own growth and identity.

“Growth in marriage does not mean losing yourself. It means finding balance as a successful wife, mother, and woman of influence,” she said.

She noted that many women struggle during major life shifts because they fail to rediscover and value themselves.

“Women need to discover and respect themselves if they want their husbands to respect them. Emotional intelligence is needed for a stable home; otherwise, even the children may become unstable,” she added.

The summit also featured open conversations from married women who shared personal experiences about balancing marriage with self-development.

One of the participants, Jamilatu Odion, said marriage revealed aspects of her personality she had never noticed before.

“I always thought I was a patient person until I got married. Sometimes I feel impatient or provoked by what my husband says, but prayer helps me stay calm,” she said.

Other speakers stressed the importance of marrying a compatible partner and building friendship within marriage, describing it as a foundation for understanding and tolerance.

Guest speaker, Zinaria Okorocba, spoke on balancing business responsibilities with family life without losing one’s sense of self.

“One of the greatest tragedies is not recognizing greatness,” she said.

She further encouraged women to identify strengths in their spouses that others may overlook, noting that wisdom and prayer are essential in building successful marriages.

The Wise Wives Summit organisers said the event is the first of many editions aimed at empowering women to become confident voices in society while learning to validate themselves beyond external approval.
