Airfare may get cheaper in first half of June as CAB lowers fuel surcharge

MANILA, Philippines – Passengers buying their plane ticket next month may expect lower airfare after the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) lowered the surcharge rate for the first half of June.

In an advisory on Thursday, May 28, the CAB said the surcharge level from June 1 to 15 will be at level 13, which is lower compared to the level 15 rate for May 16 to 30.

A fuel surcharge is an additional fee added to transportation costs to cover the volatile fuel prices.

So far, the surcharge rate has been on a downward trend since peaking at Level 19 from April 16 to 30. Despite the decrease, however, rates remain higher than those imposed before the Middle East conflict.

With the adjustment, fuel surcharges for domestic flights will range from P423 to P1,237. Meanwhile, international flight surcharges will range from P1,396.74 to P10,385.42, depending on distance and destination.

For domestic cargo, the surcharge ranges from P2.17 to P6.36, depending on distance. The surcharge for international cargo also depends on distance, ranging from P7.18 to P53.39.

Airlines that plan to impose the surcharge during this period must first secure approval from the CAB. – Rappler.com
