Kelantan Health Dept issues 85 notices for failing to display no-smoking signs

KOTA BARU: The Kelantan Health Department has issued 85 notices of offence under Section 18 of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) to premise owners and occupants for failing to comply with no-smoking regulations between January and April this year.

Its director Datuk Dr Mohd Azman Yacob said 43 notices were issued to food premises, followed by grocery stores (18), convenience stores (1) and other premises (23).

He said the notices were issued following enforcement inspections at 6,209 premises statewide.

“Of the total, 98 per cent of premises complied with Act 852 requirements by displaying no-smoking and no-vaping signs as stipulated.

“For those that failed to comply under Section 18(1), enforcement action was taken, including the issuance of notices to owners or occupants,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Mohd Azman said Tumpat recorded the highest number of notices at 20, followed by Kuala Krai (19) and Kota Baru (17).

He said enforcement was a last resort after advocacy and health education efforts had been carried out for premise owners.

“Premise owners are urged to fulfil their responsibilities by ensuring no-smoking and no-vaping signs are properly displayed to support public health initiatives,” he said.
