Tengku Hassanal: Armed forces must seek Sultan’s consent for military drills in Pahang

KUANTAN: All military exercises involving the armed forces and related departments conducted in Pahang, including on its islands, must first obtain the consent of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah, said he was deeply concerned about military training drills planned by the Malaysian Armed Forces, particularly those involving islands within Pahang.

“Such military activities could threaten Pahang’s environmental ecosystem, including its flora and fauna.

“The armed forces, together with all related departments and agencies, must first inform and obtain the consent of the Sultan of Pahang before carrying out any military drills or exercises in the state,” he said in a statement today.

Tengku Hassanal said he was not against military exercises aimed at enhancing the skills and experience of officers and personnel but stressed that such activities must be conducted in a responsible manner, with due regard for safety, environmental harmony, and the interests of all parties.

He reminded the armed forces and all related parties to comply and uphold the decree.

“I will not hesitate to instruct the Pahang government to take appropriate action should there be any breach of procedures,” he said.
